In this role, you will be accountable for leading and developing a specialist QS/payments team (circa 30 FTE) undertaking the effective and efficient reconciliation of payment activities associated with the firm's repair and maintenance contracted services. The contracted services are high volume/low value activities across Water, Waste and Metering workstreams, totalling circa 150 million pa.

This position will assertively operate all the contracts to drive quality, pursue value and eliminate causes of inefficiency. The role will also provide commercial intelligence and commercial standards to all Field Operations activities.

The position will require leading organisational change within and across several disparate payment teams from different functional areas. Hence, this role will require technical commercial expertise and both process re-engineering and sophisticated people management skills. The required outcome will include the development of a highly motivated team delivering a robust, standardised and best practice approach for contracted payments across all activities.

The change management aspect of the role will develop as our client implements and develops its SAP based business and work management systems over the next few years. The new IT processes will fundamentally impact how contracted services are managed and how payments are made.

This Leadership role will drive out efficiencies from all the contracted services across the whole of Field Operations through this newly developed Commercial team. The understanding of the contract and what drives volume and influences unit rate along the end to end process is paramount to the success of the incumbent of this highly influential role.

On a day to day basis, your role will involve the implementation and own payment reconciliation process and validity of withholding notices, formulating and owning the process for the validation and management of contract claims and disputes. Planning and executing exploitation of warranty issues within contracted services to drive quality delivery and monitoring then reporting on contractor trends and implement corrective action plans to drive best practice and reduce commercial impact of behaviour of the company and contractors.

To be successful in your application, candidates will ideally be a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with a proven track record working in the water industry and ideally regulatory frameworks. You will have technical experience in Contract/Commercial Management along with strong line management and/or robust change management skills. The chosen applicant will have strong and demonstrable interpersonal skills such as influencing and negotiation.
